This is the season of love, so why not talk about a cup that holds a special place in my heart. The Dot Cup and I first met about a year ago. I was just starting to try out different cups and it was a part of a bundle of cups I purchased. Since I was a newbee I didn’t even know what I had. It seemed like an average cup. After a cycle or two I confirmed it was easy to insert, comfortable and didn’t leak.

Dot Cup is Underrated

In my cup journey, I had accumulated more than a handful of cups, thus I attempted to downsize. The Dot Cup was one I did not want to give up but I was tempted to try another brand of cup that was getting a lot of attention (Saalt). In an effort to not accumulate more cups, I would not allow myself to buy anything new until I got rid of a few cups first. Take note - this is where I went wrong, lol. I got rid of my beloved Dot Cup.

I will spare you the details about how all the new cups I bought (yes, there were more than just the Saalt Cup) missed the mark in one way or another and eventually were evicted. They were so pretty, they came in all sorts of colors with different levels of firmness and nice packaging. I was intrigued by the novelty of it all but soon discovered the error of my ways.

I knew I needed to get a Dot Cup again so I began my online search and promptly added it to my cart! Now I just had to sit back and wait on my special delivery, right? NO! My shipment ended up getting lost. I filed a claim and received little to no insight on what happened. So, I just waited it out. A couple of weeks go by and still nothing. Until finally, about a month from the purchase date, it shows up!!! I remember it like yesterday. My Dot Cup was back in my arms again.

What’s So Special About Dot Cup?

EVERYTHING! Dot Cup is one of those faithful cups that just doesn’t get the praise it deserves. Other cups may have flashy colors and more in-your-face advertising, but Dot Cup is just a solid cup. When I feel swollen and sore this is a cup I know won’t be bothersome. It takes zero effort to insert due to the firmer rim and the soft body ensures no bladder pressure. Furthermore, the “just-right” rim diameter (listed at 1.97") ensures the right amount of overage without disrupting the ease of placement — this is a delicate balance. The rim dimensions are also to blame for the minimal propensity for leaks. All this while still being comfortable wear.

The black color of the cup is a plus because there’s no need to worry about staining. Last but not least, Dot Cup has one of the best stems (solid but flexible with notched tabs measuring .67”) on the market. Some prefere to remove the stem from their cups but I need all the stem I can get. My cups tend to travel up pretty high and Dot’s stem is easy to grab and sturdy enough to tug on so I can walk it down, break the seal and remove.

Dot Cup May Not Be One-Size-Fits-All

Dot Cup, like others, isn’t perfect. This post is about why I personally like the cup. The individuals who disagree with my findings may include those who need a larger capacity cup. I can’t argue with that. If my flow were heavier Dot Cup may have some competition. Although, I would argue that if your anatomy is such that cups tend to press on your bladder and you have trouble getting softer cups to open, Dot Cup may be worth the extra emptying on your heavy days. It’s the perfect combination - firmer rim to allow for easy insertion and soft body to deliver comfort.

Another potential downside is Dot's overall lenght of 1.97''. Depending on where you’re at on the cervix length spectrum this might be too long or too short. Dot Cup’s length might be described as average to moderately long. I am someone with a very high cervix and have grown accustomed to “digging” for my cups. So I don’t really take issue with Dot’s length. Having a lighter flow, I only empty my cup once in the morning and once at night. Those who empty, rinse and reinsert more often have a valid complaint. It can wear on you (both physically and mentally) when a cup is too short. If your cervix is shorter Dot Cup may not fit. Trimming the stem could take care of this issue depending on how low your cervix is.

Diva Cup vs Dot Cup

If you have tried a few other cups I’d like to draw some comparisons. This might help you decide whether or not Dot Cup is the cup for you. First up, Diva Cup - Dot Cup’s body is softer than the Diva Cup but the rim is more firm. Both Diva and Dot Cup have a tapered long body. Those who struggle with getting Diva to open or find Diva too firm might want to give Dot Cup a try.

Lena vs Dot cup

Next up, Lena Cup - Dot Cup’s rim is similar in firmness to the rim on Lena. However the Dot Cup’s body is significantly more soft than Lena’s body. If you’ve read my other post you know that me and Lena did not get along because of its rounded firm body. Dot Cup solves this issue by being more tapered (v-shaped) than Lena and being softer. Lena is very easy to open due to its firmness which is also something Dot Cup does well. So, if you didn’t find Lena Cup comfortable and think the firmness is to blame add Dot Cup to your list of cups to try.

Lunette and Organicup vs Dot cup

Finally, Lunette and Organicup. I will discuss these two cups at the same time because they share a VERY similar design, in my opinion. Lunette is a firm cup from rim to stem. It’s v-shape compliments some anatomies well (like mine) but the firmness can sometimes cause discomfort.

Organicup has a firm rim and soft body like Dot Cup but has a stem that can be irritating. The ridges on the stem are so prominent that they can poke you. If you like Lunette and Organicup but have gripes about Lunette’s firmness or Organicup’s clear design and uncomfortable stem, get yourself a Dot Cup!

This post is not sponsored, but rather a labor of love. Those who know me, know this is a cup I adore. As I mentioned above, I love the Dot Cup so much I bought it twice! Everyone’s experience will vary but I remember not finding many reviews of Dot Cup so I figure adding my two cents might helps someone.

Cheers,

Erika
