The Importance of Finding Your Cervix

Those of us with a high cervix know that all cups are not created equal. The issue may be that the adjective “high” is a relative term. My cervix can be unreachable some days and on lower days be just within reach.

It’s worth noting that finding your cervix is very helpful in finding the right menstrual cup. Menstrual cups are placed in close proximity (this can vary based on anatomy) to catch said flow. So, if you don’t know where your cervix is you won’t really know where to aim your menstrual cup to catch your flow. It is very possible to luck up and find a menstrual cup that works for you having never found your cervix. Be aware, things can change and your menstrual cup may stop working for you then you’re back to square one.

Here’s a few quick tips to get you started:

  • Try to relax and find a comfortable position — maybe in the shower or on the toilet. Squatting can help bring your cervix in reach.

  • Feel for a change in texture. The cervix can vary in firmness but it generally feels different than than the vaginal walls.

  • Google images of a cervix to help visualize the inside of your vagina. I’ve found this helps the process a lot.

My Cervix Lives in Narnia

My cervix is on the higher side and I know others who share my perspective. The issue with having a high cervix is that once you insert your menstrual cup it may travel out of reach! You should know that it cannot disappear because there is only one way in and one way out. So, there is no need to worry about IF the menstrual cup will be removed but only HOW the menstrual cup will be removed.

This is where the length of the menstrual cup becomes critical. A long stem will only get you so far since you will still need to pinch the base of the menstrual cup to break the seal before removal. If you are not breaking the seal before you take your cup out, you may find removal a bit painful.

The Diva Cup Size 2 is 57mm long with a 10mm stem for 67mm total length. On the other hand, the Kind Cup (regular size) is 51mm long with a 42mm stem, which is 93mm total length. My issue with both these cups is I struggle to reach the base of the cup. The Diva Cup’s short stem makes it hard to reach in general but at least the cup itself is longer. The Kind Cup’s stem is very easy to reach but it takes effort to bring the cup down so that I can squeeze the base for removal.

LaliCup XL Is the Cup I’ve Been Waiting For

The LaliCup XL is 62.5mm long with a 30.5mm stem that equals 93mm total length. This is a dream cup for those of us with a very high cervix! Even before I got my hands on one, I knew that a cup with those dimensions was right up my alley. Prior to the release of the LaliCup XL there just weren’t any cups on the market that fit the bill.

I was starting to think there was no one else with the same problem. There were so many testimonials, posts, comments, etc. claiming that the Merula, Super Jennie and even Saalt cups were great for a high cervix. I tried all these cups, and then some, only to find that I still had to dig around or “birth” them for removal. If you’ve never had this experience, you may underestimate how inconvenient it is, especially if you‘re in a public restroom.

Another feature of the LaliCup XL that should not go unnoticed is the amazing capacity. It holds up 51ml to the rim. This should not be a surprise, as the specifications of the cup allow for room enough to please those with a heavy flow. I will add that if you found Merula XL’s shape and firmness uncomfortable but needed the capacity, LaliCup XL is a very good option for you.

I was already a fan of the LaliCup design having tried the medium and large sizes before. The LaliCup XL was a welcomed addition to my monthly routine as it’s truly amazing to be able to reach a cup so easily.

Give LaliCup a Try!

This post highlights the feature I like the most about LaliCup —it’s impressive 93mm length. If you’re not sold on it based on that alone, consider the great colors, easy-to-open rim, perfect firmness and smooth silicone that helps it slide right into place with no lube needed. All of these things spell PERFECTION.

Take some time and do your research. See if this cup is something that solves an issue you have like heavy flow, trouble getting your cup to open or like me, frustration reaching your cup. Currently, this cup is in stock at Dot Box Store.

Thanks for reading :-)
